Fathers be good to your daughters.

Nick is such a good daddy. And that means everything to me because we have two little girls. That’s a big responsibility for a man. To have such a powerful role in the lives of two very precious people.

There’s a John Mayer song that says, “Fathers be good to your daughters. Daughters will live what you do. Girls become lovers, who turn into mothers, so mothers be good to your daughters too . . .” Fathers be good to your daughters because YOU have more of a say in who your daughters become than anyone else. If you’re a single mom, don’t get discouraged because God can give you what you need to be enough.

But to the dads. I don’t even know if any dads read this. But if they do… just be good to your little girls. Your words, in anger and in compassion, shape your daughters. Your words, in pain and in joy, help fashion her self image. How she feels about herself, others, about the Lord. Your words help form her view on the world around her, about how she accepts love, and how she gives love.

Words have the power of life and the power of death.

James 1:26 “If anyone among you thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.”

James 3:5-6 “Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among out members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.”

Dads, you’ve got a big part to play… and if you don’t play it someone else will.

Be patient. Be kind. Be loving in word and deed. And BE PRESENT.

Recognize the beauty in these lovely ones that God entrusted you with.
